What information is vital for your readers to know? What can you give them to get the most out of your story?

Don’t give you readers what they want—give them what they need.

Live in the moment, not around it.

Don’t let the reader do this. You might never get them back.

Think about what physical characteristics make your character unique and focus on those. After all, a lot of people have (brown, blonde, red, gray, sandy) hair.

Never ruin a reader’s carefully-crafted mental picture by describing a character too late.

How come they’re called laundry lists and not shopping lists? Who itemizes their laundry?

There are others, but let’s keep it simple for now.
